Your Dog and Calcium

Calcium is a necessary mineral for the body.  Calcium cannot be manufactured by your dog's body so it must be supplemented by the diet.  Calcium is necessary for the nerve and muscles to function, blood clotting, and for healthy teeth and bones.  Smaller dogs have less calcium in their bones than larger breeds so their requirements are different.  It is best to check with your veterinarian to determine how much calcium your pet needs.  Remember, too much calcium can interfere with your dog's ability to absorb and use other essential nutrients.
